Superior City Women sneak by previously undefeated Northern Tide

GAME SUMMARY:

Superior City FC played host to St. Paul-based Northern Tide FC in UPSL Women’s action on Saturday evening at NBC Spartan Sports Complex. The Tide came into the game undefeated, having bested Superior the previous week by a 1-0 score in St. Paul. The Beacons celebrated the return of two star players who had missed the last few games due to injury, forward Niya Wilson and midfielder Victoria Thorson. Their impact was immediately noticed, as Superior dominated the majority of the game. Superior started the scoring early, when Niya Wilson scored after Emilia McGiffert crossed the ball from the corner of the box after a fantastic individual effort. The game continued on, with Superior seeing chances, but not finding the net again during the half. Northern Tide had their strongest play of the game during the last ten minutes of the half, but Quinn Clark made one big diving save to keep the lead for the Beacons.

The second half was no different, although a 40 minute weather delay did give both teams time to reflect at the break. Superior made a few substitutions throughout the half, and had some really great chances to double the lead, but couldn’t find twine. The game dwindled down, with both teams slowing down as the half progressed, and Superior came away with a 1-0 revenge win over the Tide.
