WHO ARE THEY?
Rock City FC were formed in 2016 as an independent club, playing friendlies throughout Minnesota. The club was formed as the first locally owned pro development soccer club based in St. Cloud, MN, aimed at providing players from Central Minnesota the opportunities and training to help them achieve their goals of participating at a higher level of soccer in both a professional and positive environment. The club has a partnership with St. Cloud State University, as well as other local colleges and overseas clubs. The club joined the UPSL ahead of the 2017 season and have played in the Midwest-West conference for the past five years.
HOW DID THEY DO LAST YEAR?
Granite City competed in the Premier Division of the United Premier Soccer League Midwest-West during the 2021 season. The Rocks finished third place in the division, seven points behind champions MPLS City 2 and one point behind runners up Brooklyn Knights FC. The club finished first in the post-season UPSL tournament, consisting of the teams who did not qualify for the national playoffs, capping off the club's best season in history.
LOOKING FORWARD:
Granite City has played in three friendly matches this year, accumulating a 1-2 record including a loss to fellow WPASL powerhouse Bateaux FC. Rock City FC will play a fifth friendly against Rock City FC (MRSL) on April 24th before entering the gauntlet of the 11-team UPSL Midwest-West's Premier Division. The Rocks will open league play against newcomers Austin Villa FC on April 29th in Austin. Granite City FC's home stadium will be Tiger Stadium at Tech HS in St. Cloud, MN.
HISTORY AGAINST GRANITE CITY FC:
This will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs.
